Proper VK7 Wiring
- Ensure your VK7 devices are wired properly. Failure to have the proper wiring could cause the SD7 batteries to swell due to constant charging over a long period of time. When the ignition turns off, the VK7 should also turn off (No LED light).
- Please follow the VK7 installation instructions carefully. The VK7 device connects with 3 wires.
- Ground (Black)
- Constant 12V (Red)
- Ignition sense (Green)
- The constant 12V allows the device to function even when the ignition is off.
- The ignition sense tells the device when the vehicle is off and on.
- Based on the above, the VK7 knows to turn off when the vehicle turns off.
VK7 Setting on the SD7 set to Auto Shutdown after 15 mins
- When the SD7 senses the VK7 is off, due to turning the vehicle off, it will start the Shutdown timer.
- By default this is Off, so the device will stay on all day and drain the battery to 0% over several days of usage. When a device reaches 0%, the next day will result in a delayed start up time for the SD7 itself.
- In the SD7 go to System - VK7 Setting - Auto Shutdown and click down on Click to On
- Scroll to Delay and click down to edit the Timer in Mins. A good setting is 10 or 15 mins.
- Note: At anytime if you click the Rotary dial during the Shutdown period, it will cancel the shutdown timer for that moment. Simply start the VK7 up, then power it back down to restart the shutdown timer.
